Welcome to More Tool Power

More Tool Power will venture into the world of power tools. Ever since I was young and working with my dad in the home workshop I’ve had a fascination for power tools. The work that these tools perform is in some instances just amazing.

Power Tools

What is even more amazing is the design that goes into developing these tools. One has to wonder what runs through the minds of some of these engineers when they sit down to design a new tool. It’s truly fascinating.

Power Tool DiagramsFuture posts will explore the  individual products.  We will look, in detail,  at table saws, radial arm saws, drill presses, band saws, planers, shapers, sanders, grinders, miter saws, dovetail jigs, routers, milling machines, plate joiners, sand blasters, and on and on.

We hope to illustrate the basics of each tools operation as well as define some of the finer points.

Power Tool Safety

Before we begin discussing individual power tools, we need to look at some general safety guidelines.

  • Inspect the tools power cord for any damage.
  • Never carry a tool by the cord or remove the cord from the electrical receptacle by pulling on the cord.
  • Keep cords away from the blades or sharp edges of the tool.
  • Always unplug tools when changing blades, knives or cutting tools.
  • Be sure people not involved with the work are at a safe distance.
  • Secure work with clamps or a vise so it will not move.
  • Avoid accidental starting. Do not hold fingers on the switch button.
  • Follow instructions in the user’s manual for operation and servicing.
  • Wear proper safety equipment, including eye protection.
  • Do not wear loose or bulky clothing and jewelry that can get caught in the tool.
