Table Top Table Saw

The Table Top Table Saw

Table Top Table Saws or tabletop are the least expensive of all four types of table saws, but they are also the smallest. It’s called a table top because its usually just set on top of a table. Normally these saws are fairly light weight and can be lifted and carried by one person. These saws are also known as bench top saws or tabletop saws.

You’ll often see table saws being described as 10 inch table saws. This is a reference to the size of the cutting blade. Ten inch blades are the most common size and can be found in all of the four types of table saws.

In the Table Top category there are a variety of manufacturers making these saws. If you’re looking to purchase this size saw here’s a few of the manufacturers for you to review and compare. It’s worth noting that there isn’t much of anything that separates a tabletop or bench-top saw from a portable contractor’s saw. In today’s market the only notable difference is the wheels and the stand of a contractor’s saw.

The tabletop saw is a great saw for the woodworker with limited space because the saw can be easily picked up and move to a storage area. For its size the table top saw can be a workhorse its owner. They are versatile enough to provide cutoff service and rip service. For those who have one these in their shop I’m sure they wouldn’t give it up. It’s an extremely handy tool when you need to cutoff something that’s a little too long or or rip something a little thinner.

Nevertheless, the tabletop saw does have some drawbacks. Because its light weight the saw gives up the solid table present in the Cabinet Table Saw. This lack of firmness increase the vibrations of the tabletop saw and make it a less accurate tool. The table top saw is therefore not recommended for the construction of fine cabinetry as it just lacks the accuracy of sturdier, heftier cabinet table saws.
